Hello from Perth!!!

Having the best time here on holiday. Yesterday we had so much fun with the in-laws for Christmas lunch. It is the first time we have spent Christmas Day with them and it was such so wonderful to part of this long lost family. We ate a seafood banquet, then ham and salads and way to many wines of course. They have this tradition where after lunch they ask a bunch of questions and if you get one right you win a scratchie. It was so funny, with lots of yelling and disputing answers, but entirely entertaining and we learn’t lots about everyone.

The best pressie we got was from Justin’s dad and step-mum, which was a deluxe accommodation package at this ritzy 5 star hotel in Perth. One night, dinner and breakfast in the restuarant, valet parking and the best of all, they are minding the kids!! Awesome present LOL.

The kids got so much stuff I think we’ll need an extra suitcase to get it all home. So, so far everything is just as relaxing and fabulous as I was anticipating. Boxing Day today, so might hit the beach, or visit some rellies, or just chill out and play with the kids presents – or maybe all of the above!!! Holidays are fantastic.

Great to read that you all had wonderful Christmas’s. Hope the rest of the break is just as fab.

Today is Justin’s Dad’s 60th Birthday. Happy birthday!!!
Right now i am at my sister-in-laws and hogging the computer for a few precious minutes, but getting the evil eye from DH, so better go!!!

I got the music, I got the music in me…..

Justin gave me my Christmas pressie last night – an MP3 player. It is so small and funky and I just love it. He put downloaded some music straight away and I had it on for the rest of the evening (great tip – wearing an MP3 player makes you oblivious to children crying, husband nagging and dog barking – I thoroughly recommend it!!). I got the whole house cleaned up while bopping away and it didn’t even feel like work LOL.

Holidays at last

Yippee-ki-yay it’s the holidays…

What a weekend we had to start the school holidays. We just didn’t stop.

Saturday we went house looking but they were all so awful that it was depressing and sad. Sat arvo, Justin took the girls to a b’day party while Jess and I went to see Jane in the hospital with new baby Elias John. 126He was sooooo cute, and with the longest feet and hands that I have ever seen on a newborn. I cuddled him for ages but didn’t get clucky at all 😉
In the evening we went along to a Christmas party at my gorgeous friend Measa’s house. Her daughter and Holly were at daycare, then preschool and next year going to kindy together. It was a great evening with far to many vodka cruisers and cheesecake slices!!

Sunday was a huge sleep-in. Girls didn’t wake till well after 9.30am, me till 8.30am (and that is huge for me!!) and I raced off to mass where I got to cuddle Saraid (Moi’s baby girl) . She is so cute and tiny and petite and gorgeous – and Moi looking fab with her weight loss ( I hope Santa brings her some new jeans cause the old ones are hanging off her now!!:) )

The Sunday evening we had our family Christmas, seeing that we’ll be in WA for 3 weeks. Kids got heaps of presents and my beautiful sister gave me a card which said that a gift had been given to a poor Nicuraguan family on our behalf, via World Vision, which was an egg laying hen and training on how to care for it. The idea being that the family can have some nutritious eggs to eat for themselves, to sell eggs to others and hopefully make some money. Isn’t that a great idea?? Love it.

129 Jess with her new shirt.
132 Meggie with Pa opening pressies
135 Holly in new fairy wings

So now it is 3.20am and I couldn’t sleep, so am catching up on the blog round and seeing how everyone else’s weekends were.

Thanks goodness it is the holidays and I don’t have to rush around tomorrow:)

I’m tagged

Linda tagged me, so here I go………………..

1. Do you decorate your house this time of year? if so… how? ( a photo or description. )

I have the Christmas cards displayed, the tree up, a Nativity scene set up (complete with lux flakes to be the “snow”) and that’s about it. No outside lights to speak of – Holly keeps asking, but it ain’t ever going to happen!!

2. Have you ever been in a decoration competition?

No way

3. How much is too much?

Griswald’s !! LOL

4. How do you celebrate this time of year?

The usual pattern is to have one meal at each of the parents, either lunch with my family and dinner at Justin’s family etc, but last year and this year we leave town completely and go West to Perth to be with Justin’s Dad and sister.

5. Who’s job is it to wrap all the Christmas gifts? Will you (or whoever) use gift bags, or wrapping paper?

It’s my job, and if I didnt do it, no one would! I just use wrapping paper, and as I always have a heap of pressies to wrap.. Santa wraps his pressies too…. I just buy cheapie paper from Big W. That was Linda’s reply and it is exactly what I would have said!!

6. What do you dislike most about the holiday season?

I hate having to race around town splitting the day to be with different families. I hate the signs of dissappointment when we say we have to go to the “other”family, and I hate toys that don’t come with batteries!!

7. What are your top 3 fav Xmas songs.

All time favourite is “O Holy Night (Night Divine)” , then Joy to the World, and Away in a Manger

8. Real tree or fake?

I love the real thing, but we have a fake one!

Thanks Linda! Now I am gonna tag……..Julie Love….As if you aren’t busy enough Julie, thought I’d throw this one your way!!

It’s a BOY

I’ve just spoken to my very tired, but elated friend Jane, who gave birth to a beautiful boy at 3am this morning.

After 17 hours, head posterior and still only being 8cm dilated, she had a caeser and into the world came a gorgeous boy. She hasn’t named hime yet, he spent the night in the nursury and she wanted to see him agian before deciding. But I’ll post it here with a pic when I see them both tomorrow.

A few weeks ago I was telling Jane about the strange, prehistoric, gutteral kind of moan that you make when you have a contraction, and I advised her to take some throat lozengers for the day after. Today she thanked me for that advice, casue her throat was killing her and sounded all husky and raspy – but she was prepared!!

Congratulations Jane. I’m so proud of you, and I can’t wait to hold you baby boy and give him a kiss on his forehead.

Keeping it in perspective

My delightful Sister-in-law just sent me this email and it made me smile –

A father passing by his son’s bedroom was astonished to see the bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an envelope propped up prominently on the center of the bed. It was addressed,

“Dad”.

With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and read the letter with trembling hands:

Dear Dad, It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with mom and you.
I’ve been finding real passion! with Joan and she is so nice-even with all her piercing, tattoos, and her tight clothes. But it’s not only the passion dad, she’s pregnant and Joan said that we will be very happy.
Even though you don’t care for her as she is so much older than I, she already owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. She wants to have many more children with me and that’s now one of my dreams too. Joan taught me that marijuana doesn’t really hurt anyone and we’ll be growing it for us and trading it with her friends for all the cocaine and ecstasy we want. In the meantime, we’ll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Joan can get better; she sure deserves it!!

Don’t worry Dad, I’m 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I’m sure we’ll be back to visit so you can get to know your grandchildren.

Your son,

John

PS: Dad, none of the above is true. I’m over at the neighbor’s house.I just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than my report card that’s in my desk center drawer. I love you! Call when it is safe for me to come home.

Kinda helps to put everyhting in perspective, hey!!!

Preschool

Well the year is ending and it is the last day of Preschool tomorrow – it will be a day of mixed emotions because it has been a hard year in terms of half days, nasty parents and disorganisation, but also the end of an era for Holly who will leave her babyish kind of years behind to next year commence the long journey of school learning.

I finished all the Christmas shopping today, have it all wrapped under the tree, have made fruit mince pies to give to Holly’s teachers and washed the floor – i’m totally whacked.

Early night for me. Great to read all the news on everyone’s blogs – sounds like everyone is in the crazy festive busy mode that happens at Christmas time!! 🙂

Bags – vain of my life

Posted on

I am so forgetful at the moment – I need a holiday so bad. I keep losing things – well not losing them, jsut putting them down and walkng away and not even noticing.

Example 1- Saturday, Bowral. Public toilets, sorting the girls out, hang bag on back of door. Walk out and about an hour later notice I don’t have it.

Example 2 – Sunday, BBQ – say goodbye to everyone, get home at 10pm “where is my bag”. Left it at the party.

Example 3 – Monday, preschool. Rush rush, get out the door, carpool, arrive at preschool “where is Holly’s bag”. At home on Kitchen table.

Example 4 – Sunday, home. Justin loses his wallet, searches everywhere. Getting worried, really worried. Opens blinds to let in morning sun (Monday morning), and wallet is on the windowsill.

Bring on our holiday – only 10 days and we’ll be a Perth. So much to do between now and then and I think that is what is cluttering up my brain and getting me all flustered.
