Another Funeral

Posted on

This was the 3rd in as many months, and just as sad as the previous 2. My ex boss’s mother (age 78) died from cancer though the week. She had breast cancer about a year ago, had a double mastectomy, got over the treatment and was doing ok.

And then it got her again.

This time she didn’t want any treatment, she’d had enough of that and of being sick. My boss, Anne-Marie, is just the lovliest person in the world. I adore her and looked up to her as a mentor as well as a buddy and she was an excellent audiologist (my profession in my previous life before kids). Today she gave the Eulogy and was a pall bearer with her 4 brothers and nephew. What strength did she call upon to get though this day? She looked as though she were going to fall over from exhaustion.

As I held her in a hug, she sobbed and looked bleary eyed and unfocused, but said “She just wanted to go – I didn’t want her to, but she was in so much pain she had to go”. It was a beautiful ceremony and the preist gave the most touching homily I have ever heard. He talked about the funeral being the celebration that the person has now made it to Eternal Life. And that our everyday lives are the means to get to that Eternal Life. That we shouldn’t be making things more difficult than they need to be, that we shouldn’t fight with each other and be unhappy, but live the best we can, so that when our time comes to go to that Eternal Life we are ready. Even though I am a Catholic, I’m not overly religious, but as the preist was saying this today, I was proud. I felt myself sit up taller. It really touched a chord with me and I felt that I understood what he was saying.

So now I am here at home, and the kids are fighting, the drain got blocked so I had to call the plumber and I have to lose 5 kilos, but you know what?? – suddenly it doesn’t all seem so important. I have my family, my parents, my gorgeous friends and a love of scrapbooking. That should be all I need!

Life has changed

Everywhere I go and in everything I do, I now look at things from a scrapbooking point of view. I am not exactly sure when this happened, but all of the sudden I seem to be hoarding potential scrapping items, like broken necklaces/bangles of the girls (the ones with all the pretty little bits and peices on them), bottle tops, scraps of paper and the like.

I even peruse the aisles at Woolies and Coles looking for things to use. And yesterday, I was in the hardware store looking for hooks to hang some certificates for the office. WEll, i went into the aisle with all the nails and hooks, and there were hinges for 60cents – gold, silver – and washers for the taps which would be great to tie in with ribbons, for 6c each. My mind was boggling with all the things I could do!!!

Even the photos I take now I try to set up in a way that I could scrapbook. It has totally improved my photography skills. I think I was meant to scrapbook, I just never knew it!! I love it.

Fran Needs…

Posted on

This was something funny I saw on Roz James’s blog. She challenged anyone to type their name into a google search followed by “needs” and then post what results came up on their blog.

So Fran needs….

1. Fran needs to find a life, and this does not entail marrying Steve.
2. it would seem Fran needs to stay in
3. Fran needs to follow up with people who have signed up on the web site but have not sent in their money
4. Fran needs to pose for Playboy or better yet Penthouse! (OMG – how funny is that one!!)
5. He says Fran needs him, and Edith cries. On the ship Fran blames others, and
Dodsworth decides to get off the boat and go back to Edith.

So there you go. Good challenge!!

Can’t keep away!

Posted on

Ok, I’m over my whinge from yesterday (see previous blog entry) becasue I do have lots to write about and it doesn’t matter if anyone reads it or not!!

2 good things have happened to me today and it is only 9am.

Firstly the gardner came and gave me a quote. It was very reasonable, but as I expected, he said it would take about half a day with a few men to get the bulk of it done, and then a fortnightly visit of 2 hours to keep it under control. Yippee, I am delighted. He is starting with those few blokes on Saturday morning at 6am. They take away the rubbish and clean up. I am in 7th Heaven.

Second good thing was Jeremy turning up to take Holly to Preschool. I LOVE CARPOOLING 🙂
Jess is sound asleep, so she wasn’t disturbed by me waking her to get everyone into the car. I am picking the girls up and Caity is coming here for the day – instant kid distraction. I may get a LO done today!!

And to top it all off, Rach threw this into the mix – she suggested going to WA next February for the Boxx retreat. I wonder if I could????????????

Bloggers Block

Isn’t it amazing what people write on their blogs? Every one I look at is so different, and the way in which people express themselves is so different.

I don’t think anyone reads my blog excpet Rach and Moi, and I talk to them all the time, so why am I bothering to write here? Hmmmm? dunno. Maybe I’ll just keep quiet until I have something really exciting to talk about 🙂

Feeling A Bit Low

Posted on

I just found out that Meg may need glasses. It was totally unexpected, as even though Holly has them, I never thought that Meg had any trouble with her eyes. Now I am looking ahead at years of 2 kids with glasses, and the expense that it entails. I am looking on the bright side though – she is a beautiful girl and nothing will ever change that. The right accessories are all a girl needs these days!

Forgetful

Posted on

I keep forgetting to post that Jessie is now walking. Last week she decided that 2 feet were better than a bum shuffle, so up she got. She loves walking and can often be heard singing a tune as she goes along. She is 16.5months, and it has been the longest non-walking period of all my children.

Andrew, my nephew of the same age as Jess, has been waling for about 6 months, so my anxiety at Jess not walking was always increased when I saw him! Having said that, she is so laid back and happy, that she has been a real delight and I have not really noticed the delay on a day to day basis.

At daycare on Tuesday, she got a splinter in her foot. One of the draw-backs!!

Computer Problems

Posted on

I never realised how much I depended on my computer for interaction with the rest of the world! I haven’t had it for about 2 days now and Justin has ordered a new part, so I guess that means I’ll be without it for a few days more. Currently I am at work, and have never been so eager to walk into the place!! The first thing I did was check Rachie’s blog, then get onto the Boxx, so that I could see my latest layout in the gallery. Disappointingly however, it was no longer there as so many others had posted up their LO’s shifting mine into the “has beens”!

But I’ve linked to it here, so you can see what Rach and I did on Tuesday. it was such a lovely day, sitting at her kitchen table, with a kitchen bench (shop) full of resources at our fingertips, the puppies chasing each other around her backyard, and laughing (a lot!). Just so relaxing. Rach posted my LO and I attributed the inspiration for the design to one of my idols in the scrapping world (Julie Love) and to make my day, she saw it and commented. I was jumping around everywhere, it just made my day. Thank you so much Rach for a wonderful time.

Melbourne Cup

Posted on

What a day – I won $100!! Justin and I went in the family sweep (Justin’s Dad’s family that is) and I got first and he second, so we cleaned up!

Been a good day really. Holly went off and had a session at her new Primary school. She met her yr 6 buddy for next year, had a few activities and then I dropped her and Caity back at preschool. Justin, Michael and I then went onto lunch at a clients place for the Cup, where there was a huge seafood buffet and plenty to drink.

I don’t usually do much for the Melbourne Cup, but this was a fun day.
